The Prestige Series of the Endler Concert Series is proud to present the Italian-born pianist, Antonio Pompa Baldi on Friday 25 May at 8pm in the Endler Hall, Stellenbosch.

Prizewinner in the Cleveland International Piano Competition and Van Cliburn, Antonio Pompa-Baldi is a much-loved artist on the South African and international classical music scene. He has toured extensively in five continents, performing in some of the world’s major concert venues including New York’s Carnegie Hall, Cleveland’s Severance Hall, Milan’s Milan’s Sala Verdi, Shanghai’s Grand Theatre, and Boston’s Symphony Hall. He has also appeared in London, Rome, Tokyo, Seoul, Auckland, Houston, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Kiev, Hong Kong, Beijing, Johannesburg and Cape Town, to name a few. A top prize winner at the 1998 Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud Competition of Paris, France, Antonio Pompa-Baldi also won a silver medal at the 2001 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.

In this solo piano recital performance a highlight on the programme will be the Five French songs of Poulenc and Edith Piaf. By weaving together solo piano arrangements of music from these icons of mid-20th-century French chanson Pompa-Baldi evokes a glittering memory of one of history’s most romanticized eras. Other works on the programme include Hummel ‘s Sonata Op.13 in E flat; Chabrier’s Bourrée Fantasque; and Roberto Piana’s Improvisations on Neapolitan Songs.

Tickets for R160 (regular) and R120 (students and pensioners) are available now through Computicket and at the door.
