Schola Cantorum together with the Stellenbosch University Camerata led by Suzanne Martens and conducted by Martin Berger perform a concert dedicated to the German composer Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy titled “Just Mendelssohn!” Mendelssohn’s choral-symphonic works and cantatas are part of the standard repertoire of choral music; his oratorios Elijah and St. Paul are particularly well known. This concert focuses on some of the composer’s lesser known but incredibly beautiful compositions for choir and orchestra. The programme includes the cantata “From heav’n up high”, the spiritual hymns “Hear my prayer” and “Grant us thy peace” and a scene from the unfinished oratorio “Christ”.
