The University of Stellenbosch Symphonic Wind Ensemble (USSWE) is once again presenting a Band Extravaganza as part of the Endler Concert Series on Friday 5 May, 20h00. The Extravaganza, presented on an annual basis, sees USSWE, in collaboration with its community partners, presenting an evening of diverse music by ‘bands’ of differing instrumentation.

The marching and community band idiom, so prevalent in the Western Cape, and the South African legacy of field bands has created, perhaps more than any other musical medium, the opportunity to involve a diverse spectrum of amateur and professional musicians in an all inclusive musical experience.

Bands performing include the Wynberg Boys’ and Wynberg Girls’ High School Concert Band, and Durbanville and Bellville High School Symphonic Wind bands under the baton of ex‐maties Peter Catzavelos, Suretha Theron and Riaan van Wyk respectively. Newcomers this year include the SACS High School Concert Band under the baton of Levi Alexander and Musica Perpetua Blaasorkes from Paul Roos and Bloemhof High Schools conducted by Renaldo Wales. University of Stellenbosch Symphonic Wind Ensemble will perform works such as The Force Awakens (from Star Wars), Caught By The Horns – featuring horn quartet and band, La Virgena da Macarena, arranged by Canadian Brass featuring Chico Munoz on trumpet and Ferroll-Jon Davids on clarinet, and Fiddle Fiddle featuring Dylan Tabisher on Marimba. USSWE will be conducted by Pamela Kierman and Reghardt Kühn.
