Lutesong: Early baroque music

With: Lente Louw (mezzo soprano) and Uwe Grosser (lute, theorbo)

Powerful contrasts create unforgettable moments. One of the most typical features of Baroque art is the use of strong contrasts between light and shadow to give three dimensional objects a sense of volume. This programme of compositions from the 16th and 17th centuries shows how our emotional experience of music can be intensified by juxtaposing starkly contrasting moods or opposing perspectives. The concert includes works by Tromboncino, Monteverdi, Merula, Dowland and Kapsperger.
