Cape Town based guitarist Derek Gripper will perform in the Fismer Hall. Gripper has been praised for his dream-like improvisatory nature of these compositions as well as for his astounding musicality and technical brilliance. “His music draws on European traditions, avant-garde Brazillian works, Malian Kora repertoire, Cape Town’s Folk musics and Indian Classical music all the while making it an expression uniquely his own.” Widely lauded for his recent exploration of Mali’s greatest kora players, Gripper creates a new form of guitar music: his raw materials are Africa’s rich musical heritage. In 2016 Gripper performed at Carnegie Hall, Kings Place and many more prestigious venues around the world.
