Die Kruisiging
5 March 2017 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
| R100 – R130In spite of a local revival of sacred choral music in the past decades, an Afrikaans setting of Christ’s passion and crucifixion is still extant. Winfried Lüdemann’s setting with the title Die Kruisiging (The Crucifixion) is an attempt to address this void. The work is based on the gospel of St. John, and is a fitting tribute to the official birth of the Protestant Reformation 500 years ago.
As is the case with numerous similar works the a cappella Crucifixion setting is based on the gospel text, combined with variations on the hymn Vervul, o Heer, my hart met stille wyding. The work will be performed by a professional vocal ensemble lead by Martin Berger.
In order to add a visual dimension the young artist Ydi Coetsee created a series of seven drawings, which will be projected on a screen. The simultaneous presentation of musical and visual interpretations of Christ’s passion has not been attempted before.
The performance takes place on Sundy 5 March at 20h00 in the Endler Hall.
