Die Winterreise- The Winter Journey– by Franz Schubert and poems by Wilhelm Müller, is the story of one man’s walk through a physical and psychological landscape and physical landscape of snow, ice and cold. He struggles to find rest, and his state of mind, encapsulated in these beautiful 24 songs, moves through emotions of joy, sorrow, despair, and hope. The cycle culminates in the final plaintive sound of a barrel organ turning in the winter cold. The performance will be introduced by Nic de Jager, and  audience members will each receive a full explanation of the text.
