Freiburg Camerata with Stellenbosch University Chamber Choir & Schola Cantorum

| from R100The Endler Concert Series presents the touring Camerata Academica Freiburg with Stellenbosch University Chamber Choir and Schola Cantorum on Saturday 27 August at 20h00 in the Endler Hall, Stellenbosch.
This concert presents Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 2 entitled Lobgesang (Hymn of Praise), under the baton of Martin Berger, former Director of Music at Würzburg Cathedral in Germany and professor at the Robert-Schumann-Musikhochschule in Düsseldorf, who is fast establishing himself in South Africa as a leader in the choral tradition.
The Camerata Academica Freiburg begins the concert with overtures by Haydn (Creation), Beethoven (Leonore) and Schubert (Rosamunde) led by Gunnar Persicke. Persicke, who holds a lectureship in orchestral studies at the Musikhochschule Freiburg, will also conduct a workshop for South African students at the Department of Music in Stellenbosch.
Martin Berger, who teaches at the Department of Music at Stellenbosch University since 2013 says, “South Africa is grateful for the interest of renowned musicians to work with our students. Andreas Scholl, Pinchas Zukermann and Joshua Bell visited us during last year and enrich our students with their knowledge and skills. We look forward to the excellence of the Camerata Academica Freiburg.”
This concert will be repeated in Cape Town (Groote Kerk) on Sunday 28 August at 15h00 and with the Eastern Cape Children’s Choir in Port Elizabeth (Feathermarket Hall).
