Puccini’s most popular, quick-witted and hilarious buffoon, Gianni Schicchi, is paying a visit to the Endler stage to help the penny-pinching, obnoxious family of the late Buoso Donati recover some of the inheritance which Buoso so “kindly” decided to leave to charities and not to them. Along with Schicchi comes his darling daughter, Lauretta, with hopes of marrying Buoso’s young nephew, Rinuccio, and who easily wraps daddy around her finger at the mere words: “O mio babbino caro”.

Family feuds, false testimonies, cosplay, and lots and lots of belly laughter make this opportunity to watch a fully staged opera at the Endler unmissable. The Voice Division’s stellar performance students and former students take on the roles of Schicchi and the greedy Donati family, under the musical direction of José Dias and the stage direction of Magdalene Minnaar, who are well-known to local audiences as frequent collaborators in award-winning operatic stage productions. Fiona Du Plooy joins them to bring her signature choreographic flair to this version of Puccini’s classic.

Please keep in mind that for all live events current restrictions allow for 100 audience members in the Endler Hall and all safety protocols outlined by the University will be strictly followed. The safety of our students, staff and patrons is our priority.
