The Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra returns to the Endler Hall for its annual tribute concert in honor of the late philanthropist, Mrs Huberte Rupert. The all-Beethoven program, titled Beethoven’s Fifth, will take place on Friday, November 29, at 19:00.
Bernhard Gueller, the CPO’s principal guest conductor, will lead the orchestra in the Fidelio Overture and the Symphony No. 5 in D minor. The CPO and Gueller will also accompany the brilliant young pianist Qden Blaauw in the majestic Emperor Concerto, Concerto No. 5.
Blaauw, currently studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London, has just completed his second year under the tutelage of the acclaimed Russian pianist and teacher Rustem Hayroudinoff. He is one of only two international undergraduate students to have received a full tuition scholarship from the academy. Blaauw, who has built an impressive reputation in South Africa through numerous awards, recently resumed composing. Berlin-based artist Robin Rhode commissioned him to create a series of tracks for the animations in his new exhibition, Joburg Hymn, which celebrates Johannesburg while also highlighting areas of urban decay. Similar collaborative projects are planned for Berlin and New York in 2025.
