The Prestige Series of the Endler Concert Series is proud to present South African pianist Megan-Geoffrey Prins on Saturday 6 April at 8pm in the Endler Hall, Stellenbosch.

Prins has earned a reputation as a pianist of remarkable technical facility and abundant musicality and is this year’s recipient of the Standard Bank Young Artist of the year award for Classical Music. Prins has received numerous awards from competitions in South Africa and abroad, including first prizes at the UNISA 120th Anniversary Competition, the 5th UNISA National Piano Competition and the 2017 SAMRO Overseas Scholarships Competition. In 2018 he completed the degree Doctor of Musical Arts at the Cleveland Institute of Music.

Works on the programme include an arrangement by Ferrucio Busoni of J. S. Bach’s Chaconne in D Minor from Violin Partita No. 2. Busoni was himself an excellent pianist whose somewhat grandiose Romantic style is very evident in his transcriptions of works by Bach and Mozart. Rachmaninov, perhaps history’s most well-loved virtuoso pianist composer’s Variations on  theme of Corelli Op. 42 will be played alongside Carl Vine’s Piano Sonata No. 1 composed for the Sydney Dance Company in 1991. Prins’s mastery will be further exploited in a selection of Debussy Préludes from the heart of French impressionism and Liszt’s iconic Mephisto Waltz No. 1.

Tickets for R160 (regular) and R120 (students and pensioners) are available now through Computicket and at the door. For more information contact Fiona Grayer at concerts@sun.ac.za or 021 808 2358.
