The Endler Concert Series is proud to present the Odeion School of Music Camerata (OSMC) from the University of the Free State on Saturday 21 October at 20h00 in the Endler Hall, Stellenbosch.

The OSMC was strategically founded in 2012 as the OSM’s flagship chamber orchestra with the main objective being to create a catalyst for excellence. Since inception of the OSMC in 2012, fifteen new works have been commissioned from South African composers.

The repertoire for the concert was curated for the OSMC’s participation at the 2017 International Ictus Music Competition where they received the first prize in the category for Conservatory and University Orchestras. A part the concert programme is dedicated to prolific South African composer Hendrik Hofmeyr in honour of his 60th birthday. The ensemble will perform Super Flumina Babylonis, Notturno Elegiaco & Spokewals / Phantom Waltz all works commissioned from Hofmeyr for the OSMC. Hofmeyr’s riveting Cadenza for solo cello will be performed by Anmari van der Westhuizen. The Clarinet Concertino for Chamber Orchestra by another SA composer Keith Moss which was commissioned for the first International Clarinet Extravaganza presented by the OSM in 2016 will be performed with Naledi Dweba as soloist. For the remaining part of the programme the OSMC will perform shorter works by Bach, Gallus, Puccini, Mascagni and Vasks. The OSMC will be conducted by conductor Xavier Cloete – an alumnus from Stellenbosch University – and the mentor for the strings is OSM alumna violist Elsabe Raath from Birmingham UK.
