The Endler Concert Series presents Samba, Salsa and Spice with Stellenbosch University alumni David Bester (violin), Myles Roberts (flute) and Sulayman Human (piano) on Sunday 8 April at 16h30 in the Endler Hall, Stellenbosch.

The programme explores the sultry sounds of Latin America’s best known composers, Villa-Lobos and Piazzolla, Italian composer, Nina Rota, Czech composer, Martinu’s Madrigal Sonata and South African composer, Hendrik Hofmeyr’s Lied van die Somerwind and Il poeta e l’usignola. The program includes a mix of solo and ensemble works, allowing the listener to hear all the elements of the chamber music, which will be interwoven by the stories of the musicians.

Violinist David Bester lectures at Nelson Mandela University in Port Elizabeth. He studied under Alissa Margulis (Belgium) and Suzanne Martens (Stellenbosch). David has performed with the Cape Town-, KwaZulu Natal-, and Gauteng Philharmonic Orchestras, Chamber Orchestra of Namur, and the Amici String Quartet.

Flutist Myles Roberts began his tuition with Vesna Milakovic, before completing his MMus at Stellenbosch University with Prof. Corvin Matei. While in SA, he won a number of prestigious awards and was awarded a Lafin headjoint for most outstanding flutist at the Galway Festival in 2015 where he also had classes with James Galway. He moved to Milan in 2015 to study at the Civica Scuola de Musica de Claudio Abbado with Raffaele Trevisani.

Sulayman Human started piano at the age of 12. In 2010 he was not only the youngest winner of the Lionel Bowman Beethoven Bursary Competition, hosted by Stellenbosch University. He has gone on to win several competitions, namely the Hennie Joubert National Piano Competition, Artscape National Youth Music Competition, Atterbury National Piano Competition, SACS Music competition, semi-finalist at the 2015 Unisa National Piano Competition, second prize at the Olive Lieberz National Piano Competition and in 2017 was recipent of the FMR Bursary Award and was overall winner of the ATKV Muziq competition.
