The Endler Concert series is proud to present the Fiesta award winning Stellenbosch University Jazz Band on Friday 17 May at 8pm in the Endler Hall. This concert celebrates the 10th anniversary of the SU Jazz Band and the 20th anniversary of the Music Department’s Certificate Programme and in so doing, marks the milestones of two initiatives which, above and beyond their academic/artistic merit, have contributed greatly in the past decades to the transformation and rejuvenation of the Music Department at large.

The Stellenbosch University Jazz Band (SUJB) is one of the ensembles formed by the Certificate Programme which was created to equip members of the broader community with skills to read music and play an instrument at a level enabling them to embark on a BMus or Diploma programme at tertiary level. Over the years the band has gained a reputation for vibrant and energetic concerts, performing with artists such as Sibongile Khumalo, Judith Sephuma, Jannie Moolman, Gloria Bosman, Louis Loock, PJ Powers, Corlea Botha, Amanda Strydom,  Timothy Moloi, Tete Mbambisa and Tarryn Lamb under the leadership of Felicia Lesch.

This concert features alumni of the Jazz Band and Certificate Programme in well-loved standards such as Round midnight, Almost like Being in Love and Ntyilo, Ntyilo. The programme also features a celebration of South African Jazz standards, and the compositions and arrangements of Ramon Alexander, one of the founder members who will also appear on the programme with alumni such as Josh Prinsloo, Annemie Nel, Charl Clayton, Ronnie Siegelaar and Melvin Williams. The jazz ensemble “Just Friends” will reunite on stage. The MAD Big Band will perform in the foyer prior to the concert under the baton of former band member and Certificate Programme student, Ash-Lee Louwskieter. We are pleased to announce that singers Ricardo de Ruiter, Lunathi Ncamani and Lynette Petersen will join the band in some choice tunes.

Tickets for R60 (regular) and R40 (pensioners, students and scholars) are available now through Computicket and at the door one hour before the show.
