The Endler Concert Series is proud to host the final round of the Stellenbosch University National Ensemble Competition. The competition is open to community, school and university ensembles who compete in 2 categories: School category (age 12-18 years) and the Open category (age 19-27 years).

The competition aims to create an opportunity for scholars and students to compete in groups, rather than focusing on solo performances and in this way develop young musicians through collaborative participation. The competition encompasses ensembles in a wide range of genres of music, including classical, jazz and African traditional music.

The finals take place on Saturday 24 September, National Heritage Day, at the Endler Hall in Stellenbosch. The Schools Category finals run from 9h30-12h30 and finalists include: Hugo Lambrechts Senior Percussion Ensemble; Daniël and Chi-Chi Flute and Piano Duo; La Rochelle Con Spirito; Musiquelaine – Steenberg High School Ensemble; Outeniqua High School Jazz Band. The Open Category finals run from 13h30 – 17h30 and finalists include: Joubert & Porter Piano Duo; Coastal Brass Collective; Musae String Quartet; The Kirby String Quartet; Classical guitar and flute duo; SU Jazz trio.

The performances will be adjudicated by a panel of widely recognised and experienced professional musicians. The prize winners in both Schools and Open Categories for Classical and Jazz Ensembles will be announced at the end of each concert. Entry to the final competition round is FREE but we ask that you reserve your seat through Webtickets. For more information contact Fiona Grayer at concerts@sun.ac.za or 021 808 2358.
