Tim Kliphuis Trio
28 September 2019 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm
| R100 – R140The Endler Concert Series is delighted to welcome back the renowned Tim Kliphuis Trio from the Netherlands that performed at the 2017 and 2018 Woordfees to great critical acclaim, their 2017 performance having won the coveted Best Classical Music Production (“Beste Klassieke Musiekproduksie”) WoordTROfee that year.
Kliphuis, a classically trained violinist, Dublin-based guitarist Nigel Clark and Edinburgh bass player Roy Percy have developed a world-wide following with their brand of jazz, gypsy and crossover music.
Tim’s classical roots are reflected in the choice of repertoire known to the classical world. The band’s love for French gypsy jazz maestro Stéphane Grappelli ensures a freedom and swing in their extemporisations. Nigel brings a background in Celtic folk, but also contemporary guitar techniques into the mix and Roy’s sound recalls the various rhythms that define New Orleans music.
The trio formed a partnership with the award-winning Stellenbosch University Camerata in 2017 when they recorded “Reflecting the Seasons”, the Tim Kliphuis Trio’s first CD with orchestra. It was released by SONY Classical the following year, the success of which lead to the recording and release of a second CD with the SU Camerata and Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, “Concertos”. This disc featured Tim’s Jazz violin concerto as well as a reworking of Bach’s Brandenburg concertos.
The performance, which forms part of the second orchestra CD release tour, takes place at 4:30pm on Saturday 28 September in the Fismer Hall, Stellenbosch.
Tickets for R140 (regular) and R100 (students and pensioners) are available now through Computicket and at the door. For more information contact Fiona Grayer at concerts@sun.ac.za or 021 808 2358.
