VEGA TRIO
May 16 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
| from R65The light and colourful French Romantic style is both deeply touching and radiantly evident in Gaubert’s Trois Aquarelles for flute, cello and piano. It is usually surprise to listeners to find that Gaubert wrote this piece in 1915 while serving in the French army, perhaps as an antidote to the horrors of trench warfare.
The Vega Trio, constituted by Louisa Theart, Graham du Plessis and Nina Schumann, presents this work along with a world premiere (Bulldozers) by one of South Africa’s most celebrated composers, Matthijs van Dijk. The meditative Gardens of Anna Maria Luisa de’ Medici by Welsh composer Hilary Tann reveals her love of nature and affinity for the Japanese minimalist style. The programme closes with a jazz-infused showstopper by Nikolai Kapustin.
