Preparations for the e’Bosch School Choir Festival 2019, the largest gathering of school learners from the Stellenbosch and Franschhoek area, are well under way.

Some 600 primary and secondary school learners from a total of 21 schools are already hard at work in preparation for the concert which will be held on Saturday 14 September at 3pm at the Coetzenburg Sport’s Centre. Entry to the event is free.

“The 21 schools have been divided into five clusters of 4 or 5 schools per cluster. Each cluster will perform two pieces followed by a mass choir item where all five clusters unite in song,” says Brent Reynolds, Project Manager for the e’Bosch Schools Choir Festival.

“The Stellenbosch University Brass Ensemble, under the direction of Pamela Kierman, will perform as well as accompany the mass choir item which e’Bosch has commissioned from local composer, conductor and teacher, Xander Kritzinger. He has composed a work titled “The United Light” which will serve as the e’Bosch Song sung at every edition of this festival. Xander will also conduct the mass choir item at this year’s festival,” says Brent.

This is the 8th consecutive year that this flagship event of the e’Bosch Heritage Project is presented. The e’Bosch Heritage Project, founded in 2011, is a response to decades of social exclusion and stands for respecting human dignity, eliminating social injustices and forging social inclusion for all. It encourages everyone not only to celebrate their own heritage, but also to build bridges between different social and cultural groups.

The 18 primary schools taking part are AF Louw, Cloetesville, Devon Valley, Pieter Langeveldt, Ikaya, Dalabuhle, Groendal, Wes Eind, Wemmershoek, Bridge House, JJ Rhode, Klapmuts, Joostenberg, Vlottenburg, Raithby, Weber Gedenk, Dorothea Special School, and Simondium.

The 3 secondary schools participating this year are Cloetesville, Lückhoff, and Stellenzicht.
