The newly constituted IMAI Trio brings together three close colleagues, each a prominent SA musician in their own right – clarinetist Annelize de Villiers, conductor and bassoonist Brandon Phillips, and pianist José Dias. In this exciting new ensemble they will be exploring the fascinating music written for this unique instrumental combination. The Endler audience will be treated to an eclectic programme of trio and duo works, showcasing the various instruments’ musical characters – highlighting their capacity for elegance, virtuosity and lyricism, and celebrating the perfect compatibility of the clarinet and bassoon in a chamber music setting, with the full, often almost orchestral, support of the piano. From the grand scale of Beethoven’s beloved “Gassenhauer” Trio to the heartfelt tragedy of Glinka’s Trio Pathétique, and an added dash of Argentinian tango by Astor Piazzolla – these are but highlights of an unmissable concert programme.
