Beste vriende en patronate

Hoewel moeilik vir ons, moet ons meedeel dat ons planne vir lewendige uitvoerings vir 100 luisteraars in Junie ongelukkig nie kan voortgaan nie. Soos ons weet, ondervind die Wes-Kaap tans ook ‘n toename van COVID-19 infeksies, met ‘n toename van meer as 30% gedurende die afgelope week, soos aangekondig deur Premier Alan Winde vroeër vandeesweek.

Aan die Universiteit van Stellenbosch het ons Institusionele Komitee vir Voortgesette Besigheid byeengeko om dié aangeleentheid te bespreek. Ten einde die pandemie doeltreffend te hanteer, het die Komitee – op advies van provinsiale owerhede – die besluit geneem om alle sosiale en ander groepsaktiwiteite wat die Universiteit sou raak, op te skort. Met die einde van die eerste semester in sig, en die komende eksamentydperk, is die veiligheid van ons studente, personeel en patronate ons eerste prioriteit.

Ons het geen ander keuse nie as om die Endlersaal te sluit. Alle etensuurkonserte sal tot verdere kennisgewing gekanselleer word. Ons hoop natuurlik om gedurende die tweede semester terug te wees met konserte, maar sal eers die effek van die derde pandemie-vlaag moet afwag, en intussen hou by alle gesondheids- en veiligheidsmaatreëls van die Universiteit.

Ek is persoonlik diep teleurgesteld oor hierdie ongerief.

Fallen Star –  Lourens Fick

Bio

Lourens Fick is a pianist hailing from South Africa. He received his MMus degree in Piano Performance at the University of Stellenbosch, completing his performance education under the tutelage of Bennie van Eeden. Throughout his studies he has received masterclasses from several internationally acclaimed pianists, such as Antonio Pompa-Baldi, Aviram Reichert, Jura Margulis and Leslie Howard.

In addition to several television performances, he’s also performed as soloist with several South African orchestras, once described in the South African newspaper, Die Burger, as ‘impressive playing’. He is a frequent participant in national competitions and placed high in several during his studies including the Unisa South African Music Scholarship, Yamaha Key Performers of Note, Wakkerstroom Music Burasry, Samro Overseas Scholarships, Olive Lieberz and Unisa National Piano competitions.

Lourens intends to pursue a second Master’s degree at Berklee College of Music – Valencia Campus, Spain, starting September 2021. Through a competitive selection process and interview, he has been selected to attend the Masters in Contemporary Performance with Production Concentration course presented, on a partial scholarship from the college.
